The Phantom Killer
True Crime
1 Episodes
Over ten weeks in the spring of 1946, an unidentified attacker struck eight people in and around Texarkana, the twin cities straddling the Texas–Arkansas line, killing five before the attacks abruptly stopped. The town was riding a postwar boom, doors left unlocked and couples parked freely on isolated country lanes, until a masked man with a heavy flashlight turned those lanes into hunting ground. Two early survivors gave the only physical description law enforcement would ever record — a plain white cloth mask with eye holes cut roughly from the fabric — and .32 caliber casings in the dirt tied one scene to the next. The Texas Rangers arrived under Captain Manuel Gonzaullas, roads were locked down and posses combed the woods, but the crime scenes had already been trampled and the one recovered trophy yielded nothing. Narrated from the documented record, the series follows the attacks, the panic, and the investigation that never charged anyone.
