On the morning of Sunday, October 19, 2025, four men in construction worker vests parked a furniture lift outside the Louvre's Seine-facing façade. Two rode a cherry-picker basket up to a second-floor balcony. They smashed a window into the Apollo Gallery — the room that holds what is left of the French Crown Jewels — cut open two display cases with angle grinders, and took eight pieces of Napoleonic royal jewellery. They were inside the museum for approximately seven minutes. They escaped on scooters. As of this writing, the jewels have not been recovered. Seven people have been arrested. The four thieves themselves are believed to be identified. The most famous museum in the world was, in seven minutes, robbed of eighty-eight million euros in the middle of a Sunday morning while paying visitors watched.
