The Miraculous Journey of Dr. Dean is a based-on-true-events medical drama set in a Brooklyn trauma hospital in 1987, at the height of the crack epidemic. Dean is a senior surgical resident three years into a program he never wanted — arrogant, exhausted, pocketing crack vials off his own patients, and convinced he was meant for Boston instead of a war-zone ER in East New York. As he fights to save people the system keeps parking in hallways, he collides with a chief resident who won't get out of bed, a chairman who punishes him for being right, and a father, himself a revered surgeon, who tells him he isn't cut out for any of it. His romance with Sarah, a sharp Indian-American medical student, gives him something to hold onto — until his family's expectations and his own self-sabotage start pulling it apart.
